    Siikakoski Fishing Area

    The Siikakoski fishing area covers the eastern branch of the Kymijoki rapids from Anjalankoski to the sea. It includes Siikakoski, Korkeakoski and Kokonkoski – all excellent fly fishing destinations. Villa Koskenäyräs sits on the bank of Kokonkoski, so fishing starts from the backyard.

    Three islands, varied currents and pools. Upper rapids suit streamer fishing, mid-section boulders are ideal for euro nymphing, and the lower pool is perfect for dry fly fishing. Walk to the bank in minutes.

    Siikakoski – the main rapids

    Siikakoski main rapids is the most powerful stretch of the Kymijoki eastern branch. Deep pools and fast runs attract large salmon and trout. The autumn salmon run peaks here.

    Korkeakoski offers diverse fly fishing spots: boulder runs, pool edges and smaller side currents. Excellent for euro nymphing and dry fly fishing especially in summer.

    Langinkoski Fishing Area

    Langinkoski is a historic fly fishing destination at the mouth of the Kymijoki in Kotka. Russian Emperor Alexander III fished here in the 1880s – the imperial fishing lodge still stands. Langinkoski is known for strong salmon and trout populations, with rapids offering diverse fly fishing opportunities.

    Dry Fly

    Grayling and trout rise in pools especially June–September. CDC flies and parachute patterns #14–#18. Best spots: Kokonkoski lower pool and Langinkoski lower section.

    Nymph & Euro Nymph

    Effective throughout the season on both areas. Czech nymphing in Korkeakoski boulders, euro nymph in deep pockets. Pheasant tail, hare's ear #12–#16.

    Streamer & Tube Fly

    Large tubes at Siikakoski and Langinkoski during autumn salmon run. Classic swing fishing at the Emperor's rapids. Smaller streamers for trout in summer.

    Is the area suitable for beginner fly fishers?

    Yes! The calm lower pool at Kokonkoski and Langinkoski's lower section are excellent starting points. We recommend booking a guided fly fishing trip for your first time.

    What fly patterns work best?

    Autumn salmon: tube flies (black/orange) and large streamers. Trout: nymphs (pheasant tail, hare's ear) and dry flies. Grayling: small CDC dries and parachute patterns #14–#18.

    Are fishing permits required and for which area?

    Yes, Siikakoski and Langinkoski have separate fishing permits. We're happy to help with obtaining permits for both areas during your visit.

    When is the best fly fishing season?

    Fly fishing for salmon peaks in August–September on both areas. Dry fly fishing for grayling and trout is excellent June–September. Langinkoski's salmon run starts slightly earlier due to its coastal location.

    Kokonkoski is right in front of the villa – minutes walk. Other rapids at Siikakoski and Korkeakoski are a short drive away. Langinkoski in Kotka is about a 30-minute drive from the villa.
